At the Wynnum Manly Family Practice, patient privacy and confidentiality is of paramount importance.
All patient information collected by the practice (called "personal health information"), is managed in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth.), and the National Privacy Principles. This includes, but is not limited to, a patient's health record.
The practice takes confidentiality very seriously, and has a written policy to ensure that patients' Personal Health Information is not disclosed without express prior approval. All practice staff undergo regular training to ensure they adhere to this policy, to ensure confidentiality is maintained. Any breach of privacy or confidentiality will result in disciplinary action, which may include terminating the employment of the staff member involved. This is how seriously we take your privacy.
The "Wynnum Manly Family Practice Privacy Policy" is available for perusal, on request.
Should patients have any concerns regarding confidentiality or how their personal health information has been managed, they should initially raise the matter in writing with Dr. Christopher Podagiel (the practice principal, and designated officer for privacy matters).
If a suitable resolution is not reached, further contact should be made with Office of the Health Ombudsman via the internet (www.oho.qld.gov.au) or phoning 133 646.
